Perfect sushi for family and friends
The smell of freshly made sushi can make your mouth water instantly! The taste of soft freshly rolled sushi is even better. That is why some people choose to make their own. I provide an easy way for even the most beginner of beginners. Just follow the steps below.
hint: You can cook your rice any way you know how, pot reduction method, rice cooker, what ever you like. Just be sure to add an extra 1/2 cup of water to the normal amount you use. This way your rice will turn out a bit more gluggy, a bit more moist and more suitable for sushi. Of course you can buy sushi rice from your super market, in which case, just follow the steps on the packet.
hint no 2: There are 2 tools mentioned in this recipe. One of them is the sushi mat. The other is a sushi roller. The sushi roller will make it quick and easy. Anyways, you have options.
Ingredients
1x 450-500gr premium can of tuna (i.e. yellow fin tuna)
1x combination of carrot and cucumber sticks (aka julienne or match sticks)
1s avocado (optional - you know you want it !)

1xtablespoon of castor sugar
1/1/2 cups of white short or medium grain rice (or sushi rice)
full flavoured salty soy sauce (no need to reduce salt)
Method
- Cook the rice however you like, taking note of the hint at the top of the article. Once the rice is cooked and still hot, add the vinegar and sugar and stir around to mix it through and dissolve the sugar. Let the rice rest and cool while you do the next steps.
- Using sushi mat: place nori on the sushi roller matt so the shiny side is facing the matt.
- Spread 1/4 of the rice out evenly on the nori sheet, leaving a about 1cm perimeter where the roll will meet.
- Spread 2 Tablespoons of mayo evenly on the rice.
- Spread 2 tablespoons of fresh tuna evenly on the rice.
- Add some sticks of carrots & cucumbers and slithers of avocado.
- Roll up the mixture firmly to form a roll. You may wet your finger tips to wet the 1cm perimeter to make sure the sheet forms a seal once rolled.
- Using sushi roller
- Add all your ingredients to the sushi roller in the same order as with the sushi matt above.
- fold down the handle, pull up the flap and you get perfection.
- Cut sushi rolls into smaller bit size discs
- Dip into soy sauce and enjoy.
